Wow, another quilt shop is closing here in Southeastern Wisconsin. Calico Canvas and Colors has announced they are closing shop. Retiring! They said there have been four quilt shops in southeastern WI that have closed this last year or past winter. Wow. A lot to do with internet sales. Not as many people buying in the quilt shop. Now that confuses me. Why would I want to pay the same price for fabric and pay an additional shipping charge on top of that? I like to feel and play with them lay the fabrics next to each other. The computer never does the colors justice! We don’t have many quilt shops left here in WI! I am going to have to move! Although, I don’t think my husband would like that very much! he-he . So of course I had to do some serious shopping and buy backing fabric for all of the quilts I have in progress! $300+ later! The whole store is 20% off! How fun is that! I keep telling myself to just buy what I need right now because I have to buy backing and you know how much at a time you have to buy for that. Anyways, happy quilting.

So here are my applique flowers, leaves and birds that go on the borders of my quilt. The green fabric is for the vines. Took me a looong time to get this far. I don’t know how people just whip out quilts!

I gave up on doing the applique with turning the edges under as you can see….. it was taking me even longer! Not a good one to learn round edges on! I guess I need to take a class on applique!

I seem to be navigating towards quilts that have a lot of applique on them lately. They are so pretty. It seems to add so much to the quilt. Now I just have to get past doing iron on applique and this blanket stitch as I think this is called?…. I did my paramount star quilt leave borders with all turn under applique (sorry if I am killing the terminology here) but that didn’t have any rounded edges, and I basted the edges down first before I appliqued the pieces onto the quilt. Anyways, happy quilting everyone!

I finally finished the inner part of the Old Fashioned Charm quilt. Took me long enough! Now I am doing the applique on the borders. I decided to do it by the needleturn applique method. At least I am going to try to do it that way. So far my edges aren’t very round. I should have just done the machine applique method….it would have been MUCH quicker! I thought this would have been a quick quilt and it it turning out to be a very tedious one indeed! I just love looking at everyones blogs! I wish I had more time to spend on the computer and read everyones. They are so much fun! Keep up the great work everyone! Tricia
